So where's the big storm
they predicted?
Where's all the bluster
we were supposed to be planning for?
Do these weather people know
what they're talking about?
Or are we silly to listen
to them? Nothing like what
they said.

And now
I'm disappointed.

A Rainy Autumn

I t has been blazingly sunny for months and months
now comes the mist
on my windshield, on my eyelids
on my psyche.

Every year, when the monsoon hits
I am disoriented
in a new kind of world.
I'm not used to all this water.

I think I'm a desert kind of girl...
when we were in Sonora
I felt at home
with the lizards and the coyotes.

Now I am here
in the silence. I like it here
except for the rain
and the sound of the thunder

in my sleep.

Being Seventy

We went to Tiburon last night
for my birthday. I was
seventy.

Can you believe it?
I can't.

It was a warm night.
We ate at Rooney's.
Everything was as perfect
as life can ever be.

And still is.

Il Fornaio

And we went to Il Fornaio
for the first time since I am back
in Marin.

It was fabulous
as usual.
The spinach crisp and clean.
The tomatoes bright
and sweet.

You were kind
and witty. It was a balmy night
with a full moon.

Spirit Rock

Last night we went to Spirit Rock
together.
We meditated...ate a vegetarian supper
in general enjoyed our time
together.
The hills and deer and trees around here
are amazing.
And your company is sublime.
An evening at Spirit Rock is to be
remembered.
